QUICK HAIR TIP FOR EXTREMELY DRY HAIR

OMG, my hair has been the most dry of all dry seasons ever. Okay, maybe that didn't make sense but the point still remains that I am talking about my hair being desert dry. It was so dry that my scalp was itching nonstop and was flaking up. Keep in mind, I wash my hair every two or three days but this week, I haven't done any of that, nor have I oiled my scalp in so long that I doubt it would even recognize the feeling.  So what I decided to do was a home "stimulating re-hydration" treatment. This treatment is very simple to relieve itchy scalp, dry, brittle, and also dull hair at the same time. All you need is one egg (depending on the thickness/length of your hair), and one or two teaspoons of cayenne pepper.  The egg is for protein, dullness, to provide Vitamins A, D, B-12, and E, also amino acids and Sulfur, which is a growth stimulate. An egg can provide the moisture that your hair is lacking, hence why it is so dry, which can then result in breakage. As...

TUESDAY'S SOLUTION: OLIVE OIL

I know for a fact that you know what Olive Oil is used for; cooking obviously. But did you know that you can also use this product for your hair and skin? Of course you did, so did you actually try it out? Well I have, and still continue to use Olive Oil, well the Extra Virgin Olive Oil, known as EVOO in the hair hair world.  If you have dry hair, thick hair, dirty hair, breakage, colored, permed or natural hair, this will work wonders for your tresses. I use it for an oil rinse, a pre-poo, a sealant, and also as an itchy scalp reliever - especially when my hair is almost desert dry. I will make a separate post later for each of the ways I use EVOO but right now I am just trying to introduce you to it. Olive Oil has been used on the hair for thousands of years. It adds shine, body, softness, and resilience to the strands, making it stronger and preventing breakage. It doesn't matter the hair type, or race of a person, Olive Oil works for everyone. Give it a try and see if...

FUNNY HAIR RELATED STORY

I had to come and blog about this. I know this whole "black hair care" thing has been a topic for the past few years and is increasing in popularity for the whole "natural" phenomenon, but every since I had been on this "journey," there have even been men who have been complimenting my hair. Last summer, I was walking to the corner bodega when this guy out of nowhere was like "I love a black women with long flowing hair." LOL  That simple comment made me feel as if I finally graduated in the hair academy. Yaaay me! This brings me to something that happened last night. Again, I had to run out to the bodega to grab some cranberry juice. I hate going outside when my hair is not done. Those are the times I always seem to run into someone that I know, in which I have not seen in forever, ugh! So I had used some oil, and a profectiv product, then put two braids in my hair, then continued on to the store. As I am standing in line, there was two men st...

HAIR OF THE SUMMER LOOK: RIHANNA

This woman is RIH -diculously gorgeous. From hair, to make-up, to her humble personality, to her style, Rihanna has it all on lock.  This summer, via her instagram, I noticed she is rockin' her natural (assumed) hair texture which makes her face stand out even more. She looks so young with her hair worn in this manner. I just had to drop a post about one of the baddest (IMO).  Take a look at her changes in hair over the years.

HAIRSTYLE OF THE WEEK: SIMPLE TWO BRAIDS WITH A TWIST

Very simple style that you can do with a single braid, or you can have two separage braids. Just swirl the tail end into a curly bun, continue to pin under. I would give you my version of it as well but remember I'm in box braids, therefore I am unable to show you. Or for a more tighter version, try the one below

UPCOMING TOPICS FOR THIS WEEK

Finally I have a break from work and decided to write as many posts/articles as I can this week for the readers. I received report that I had over 5000 readers last month and I am hoping to get past that this month. Therefore, I am mapping out a plan of action to keep me on track weekly. I will continue to do this since it seems easier as far as keeping interest of myself and everyone else as well. Sundays: Hairstyle of the week   (This will give you the latest trend on quick, diy hairstyles that will keep you looking ready for the world) Mondays: Surprise topic  (I will choose what to discuss. General hair topics, such as,  hair growth products that actually work, what to do if hair is breaking for no obvious reason...) UPDATED LENGTH CHECK

I DECIDED TO FLAT IRON MY HAIR DURING THIS "90 DAYS OF NO HEAT CHALLENGE." ONLY BECAUSE I HAD OBLIGATIONS TO ATTEND TO. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY PASS THAT I USE. ESPECIALLY SINCE I ONLY HAVE ONE MORE MONTH TO GO. THIS IS THE LONGEST I HAD BEEN W/OUT HEAT. IF YOU PAID ATTENTION TO MY LAST LENGTH CHECK BEFORE THE CHALLENGE AND TAKE A LOOK AT MY CURRENT LENGTH CHECK, YOU WILL SEE THE HEALTH AND GROWTH THAT I HAVE KEPT DURING THE TWO MONTHS WITHOUT HEAT. I HOPE YOU ALL JOIN ME FOR THE NEXT MINI "NO HEAT" CHALLENGE.

Day 15 of NO HEAT CHALLENGE

As you recall from the previous post, I have decided to take the 90 day no heat challenge for myself. I have actually been doing well. Wearing nothing but cornrowed braided styles since I've started, it feels kind of good not having to do my hair everyday. For week one I had my hair braided like this ^. I tried to recreate the style but decided to do a little something different for back. I hate those little "naps" that will not stay up. Ugh! Week two, I tweaked the braids a little bit. I loved the outcome. This time around I left a large bang out and manipulated it with a plait or a twist to the side. And when I just took my braids out to wash, I simply wore a bun like below I am determined to not use heat until March 30th. That will be a complete 90 challenge.

Celebrity Hair: Karlie Redd

It seems as if Karlie Redd from Love & Hip-Hop ATL is holding other secrets besides for her age and secret to her youthful looks. It seems as if she is holding out on her secret to naturally beautiful hip-length hair. I searched thoroughly for a hair regimen or products that she uses, but she seems to hold all the information back for an upcoming product line. Karlie Redd, Karlie Lewis, or Keisha Lewis, whichever you choose to call her, first stood out as a cast member on Vh1’s “Love & Hop-Hop Atlanta,” who had a love interest in the rapper Benzino. I on the other hand, like so many others, found her to be the same woman in SYFY’s “Scream Queens” in 2010. Even then, her hair was always in the best of shape. It is a known fact that she wears weaves, as she promoted the release of her own hair extension line, Redd Remy Hair.  During an interview, Karlie said the only reason she wears hair extensions is to add the effect of fullness to her hair. She also wears weaves to...

HOMEMADE FIXTURES THAT WORK

Let’s face it; most of America is not in the financial class of having extra money to buy expensive hair products. I’m talking about the products that promise to promote healthy hair growth, or to stop breakage, or even to grow hair six inches in three months. African-American women alone spend more money on hair care products than any other race.  Not talking about a few hundred dollars here and there, studies show the amount we spend on hair care products surpasses the half a trillion dollar mark annually, just in our hair care alone. So how can we cut this cost down? The answer is simple. Create treatments from the comfort of our own kitchen at little to no cost at all. The point is, we could save ourselves so much money if we used home remedies to fix everyday hair problems. There are plenty of ways to fix whatever problem you’re having with just a simple at home recipe. HAIR OF THE DAY: BROOKE BAILEY

For those of you wondering if this is all of Brooke Bailey's hair.....I can let all of the inquiring minds know that YES, this is indeed her real hair, and not only is this her real hair, she is also natural.  She was asked on twitter if she perms or presses her hair out with a hot comb. She had responded by saying @brookebaileyinc LOL ...  I don't perm or press my hair. In this pic I washed it and let it air dry.  It seems as if she always had beautiful hair. Her hair is absolutely gorgeous and looks very healthy. Her natural haircare line (in which she uses for her hair) will be launched shortly. I guess I may have to give it a try. Considering how shiny her hair looks, it can't be that bad. (Click to enlarge images)

Growing Long, Healthy African Textured Hair

There is no quick recipe to grow African textured hair fast. You have to have patience. One of the things I learned during my journey is that not every product that states it will grow hair +5 inches in one month will actually do what it says. If that was the case, everyone would walk around here with long hair down to their feet. HOW FAST DOES HAIR GROW? The speed of hair growth is approximately 0.5 inches per month without stimulants or supplements interfering with normal growth rate. This estimate would give you six inches of hair for the year. You also have to keep in mind that your lifestyle choices such as diet, age, exercise, and healthy hair practices all affect your growth rate. Sometimes it can enhance your rate and often it can have a negative affect. Keep in mind that our hair grows in coils, curls, that do not get moisture down through the rest of the strand.  TIPS FOR HEALTHY HAIR GROWTH: I have documented tips that have helped me along my j...
