PROTECTIVE STYLE: BOX BRAIDS

One of the best protective styles out there these days are Box Braids. Their trendy, stylish, versatile, and flexible in styling. You can even dress them up with accessories. I am not one to wear protective styles, but lately, Box Braids have been becoming  my best friend. @IAmIjanei  Wearing this easy to do protective style saves me a lot of time getting ready for the day. Aside from that, it gives your tresses a break from normal every day combing. I am the type of person who washes my hair at least once every other day, therefore, keeping these braids in longer than one week always is a challenge for me. This time, I am determined to get four weeks in. Follow my blog for everyday styling, moisturizing, and getting the best out of this low manipulation protective style. TWISTED FRIDAYS: FLAT TWIST OUT

I had recently did a flat twist out and loved the results. Since my hair is getting longer now, I love how the hair is big and lays flat now instead of sticking all over the place. Check out my results. I used Ecostyler, the old fashioned Indian Hemp Hair Conditioner (Grease), then flat twisted the whole way back, and the front half, I twisted going towards the ears.

11 DAYS DOWN: 34 MORE TO GO WITH THESE BRAIDS

Yaaay me. I made almost two weeks in with these braids. I am actually loving the versatility that I have been experiencing with box braids. I can pretty much style them in anyway that I like; rather I decide to wear a bun, wear it straight down, or even in a fishtail braid. Now I am going to keep it tied down in a bun for the next two weeks, and try different spray colors. I am still oiling my scalp, and using JBCO on my edges. I have also been taking Biotin every day surprisingly. I hope when I take these braids out, I have a good amount of growth in time for my birthday, which is November 23rd. Take a look at some of the styles I have been wearing. Enjoy.

BOX BRAIDS...THE LOVE FOR THEM

The longest that I have left my hair alone was when I had box braids in. I actually left them in for a total of three weeks. For some reason, I have an issue with leaving my hair alone, so for me to leave it alone, I decided to braid my hair up for a while. My goal is to leave this in for at least a month and a half. For the next month, I am going to do my best to stay on schedule.  Sundays/Tuesdays/Thursdays: Oil Scalp with homemade oil Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays: Massage scalp for at least five minutes, wrap hair up, moisturize braids Saturdays: Wash hair As for a daily routine, I will remain taking Biotin vitamins and see where that gets me. Thus far it has been great. My hair is growing in thick, and quick. I will update you on the growth later this week. A pic that I had taken before I put the braids in. In case you are curious, her are some pics of the braids I did. It only took me four hours with breaks in between. (Don't mind the last few pics, I wa...

DIFFERENT STYLES WITH SHORT HAIR

Okay, I take you saw my last blog post about how I randomly made the decision to chop off my heat damaged hair. Well, now that I am starting over, I haven't had hair this short in over a decade, lol. I am still not brave enough to wear my own hair in public like I would like to. It is in between that awkward stage where my face seems to appear huge. I hate that, especially with my features, it just draws more attention to my face. UGH! It has been almost a complete month without heat in my hair. On the 29th marks one month since I big chopped. For the next three months, I plan to wear box braids in my hair since I like the way it looks on me, plus if I want to give them a wash, I can do so very easily. Now the struggle of waking up trying to cram some gel in my hair will not be an issue. Well, I have found a few styles that I like on me, Surprisingly my hair fits up into a bun. Check the pictures below. Which do you like? Do not forget to follow my instagram as I will be postin...

WHERE TO NOW

So, as you know, I cut off my hair last month. So far it is growing back nice and quickly. I am making sure that I deep condition these strands at least once a week. I have only straightened my  hair once and it looked amazing. I received so many compliments about how healthy my hair looks, and how shiny it is. Therefore, I think that the cut was needed. I do however miss the length.  My route now is uncertain. I want to install a weave, then I change my mind to braids, then again I change it to just wearing it in it's natural state. Sigh* So many options. Any ideas? My birthday is next month so I may settle for the weave until the end of the year? Good idea or bad? Either way, I will keep you posted.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS

Today is June 29th, a Sunday, so i did not do anything to my hair as of yet except washed, deep conditioned, conditioned, and oiled my scalp because it was severely dry that I had no choice. Now I am sitting here with big hair that is thrown back into a ponytail, and no idea what to do with it. (See image below) Any help anyone? Times like these are what leads me to flat ironing. Sigh. I know, I know, I am still sticking to the "No (Summer) Heat Challenge." I pray this brings me some growth, retention, and thickness to these strands. Now I am stuck as to what to do with my hair for this week. I really love the results that I got by wearing two buns overnight. The pictures below are all no heat styled curls. So what should I do with my hair for tomorrow at least? Should I bun it? Braid out? Twist out? Bun-out? Bantu Knot out? What? I do know that I am not doing a Wash N Go, because it just like "Oh Hell No" every time I try it. I t...

DAYS ONE TO FIVE: NO HEAT CHALLENGE

I love taking pictures of different hairstyles I do. And just like last time with this challenge, I will document many different styles I create. So far for days one through five, I washed my hair, deep conditioned it, and wore a bun for the first three days. For the last two days, I wore a braid out. Nothing spectacular but a lot of my patients loved the big hair. This is my hair with no product after a fresh wash: This is a reverse bun that I did. I loved how big and full it was. I received many compliments on it. And the braid out I have wore yesterday.  Tonight, I may cowash, and wear a big bun or wear a nice wash and go to one side, or I may try to find someway to preserve this braidout. Either way, I will snap a few pictures. I fought so hard not to use the flat iron on Monday. Lol
