PROTECTIVE STYLE: BOX BRAIDS

One of the best protective styles out there these days are Box Braids. Their trendy, stylish, versatile, and flexible in styling. You can even dress them up with accessories. I am not one to wear protective styles, but lately, Box Braids have been becoming  my best friend. @IAmIjanei  Wearing this easy to do protective style saves me a lot of time getting ready for the day. Aside from that, it gives your tresses a break from normal every day combing. I am the type of person who washes my hair at least once every other day, therefore, keeping these braids in longer than one week always is a challenge for me. This time, I am determined to get four weeks in. Follow my blog for everyday styling, moisturizing, and getting the best out of this low manipulation protective style. ZONNIQUE PULLINS ARRESTED FOR CARRYING LEGAL GUN

Tiny's daughter, rapper TI's stepdaughter, Zonnique Pullins was arrested at the airport for carrying a gun. According to a family member, Zonnique had changed bags and forgot that she was actually carrying the concealed weapon in the bag. I doubt they believed she would do any harm to any passengers on a plane, but in today's world, you never know.  The gun was legal and she had every right to carry it on her but not at an airport. People were so quick to judge her stating that she should not have been with a gun in the first place. The gun is licensed and she is sort of a celebrity. After the recent shooting of singer, Christina Grimmie, last week, it is the worst scenario for someone to have to be in. Zonnique doesn't always have security with her and as a young girl, I don't see anything wrong with it. It was to be used for protection only.  She was released shortly after she was arrested and charged with the weapon.

11 DAYS DOWN: 34 MORE TO GO WITH THESE BRAIDS

Yaaay me. I made almost two weeks in with these braids. I am actually loving the versatility that I have been experiencing with box braids. I can pretty much style them in anyway that I like; rather I decide to wear a bun, wear it straight down, or even in a fishtail braid. Now I am going to keep it tied down in a bun for the next two weeks, and try different spray colors. I am still oiling my scalp, and using JBCO on my edges. I have also been taking Biotin every day surprisingly. I hope when I take these braids out, I have a good amount of growth in time for my birthday, which is November 23rd. Take a look at some of the styles I have been wearing. Enjoy.

BOX BRAIDS...THE LOVE FOR THEM

The longest that I have left my hair alone was when I had box braids in. I actually left them in for a total of three weeks. For some reason, I have an issue with leaving my hair alone, so for me to leave it alone, I decided to braid my hair up for a while. My goal is to leave this in for at least a month and a half. For the next month, I am going to do my best to stay on schedule.  Sundays/Tuesdays/Thursdays: Oil Scalp with homemade oil Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays: Massage scalp for at least five minutes, wrap hair up, moisturize braids Saturdays: Wash hair As for a daily routine, I will remain taking Biotin vitamins and see where that gets me. Thus far it has been great. My hair is growing in thick, and quick. I will update you on the growth later this week. A pic that I had taken before I put the braids in. In case you are curious, her are some pics of the braids I did. It only took me four hours with breaks in between. (Don't mind the last few pics, I wa...

STYLING OPTIONS FOR BOX BRAIDS

I'm beyond bored with these box braids. You already know how I get bored with my hair easily, so imagine having these braids in. Yea. Sucks. I'm trying my hardest to maintain until the end of the month. That will make four weeks of these braids. My hair is growing quickly. Already I have new growth that is killing me just to look at. (images below)  So pretty much I have been keeping it in a loose bun. Now to help me get over this hump/funk I'm in with styling options on loose braids, I went to youtube for some ideas.  I found a few styles I am going to give a try. I will post pictures of course as I do them. For now, I will go off and sulk in my own braided misery.

STYLING MY BOX BRAIDS

I'm far from style challenged. My problem is I get bored with the same styles. Usually, I find a few styles I do, do not go with my face to kindly. With strong African features, I had to find what really looked right to me. Well It has been two weeks since I got these box braids in that I did myself. As I stated, I am going to keep them in for this entire month of July. Hopefully, this will give me that extra inch closer to waist length that I need. Last length check I did was back in May. I stopped using heat in June. In box braids until August. Man, I can't wait to see what the next length check has in store for me. Surprise galore, I'm sure. Anyway, here are a few pics of styles I have work with these braids. These are after my first wash, and conditioning treatment

SUMMER NO HEAT CHALLENGE

I honestly do not recall telling you all that I will not be using heat this summer. The last time that I used heat was June 3rd for my beautiful cousins graduation ceremony. For the past month of June, I basically did wash and gos, braidouts, or a twist and bun. I got so tired of this head full of hair at one point, I decided to cut it all off. Luckily I didn't. So July 1st, I put box braids in for this month. Now you know how I get impatient, and bored with my hair easily, so my goal is to keep these in for the ENTIRE month. GASP! I hope I last that long, because honestly, as I am typing this, I feel like I had enough and want to do a wash-n-go. Now I have vacation coming up the first weekend of August. Going to the beach baby. Aaah. Fresh air, fresh hair, and fresh weave is what I will be wearing. I plan on getting a sew-in done. self-install to be exact. Now with the install, I plan on keeping it in until the first week of September. I am just in a hurry to see how much my o...

TOPICS THAT WILL BE POSTED TOMORROW MORNING

Okay, I'm late again. But this time it is hair related. I have been busy taking care of business and also putting back in my box braids for the past three days. I finally finished and will now catch up on the topics for this week. Since I didn't post like I should I am playing catch-up. The following will be posted by 8am tomorrow morning. Hair from around the World: Grenada Product Review: Olive Oil Hair Moisturizing Lotion Surprise Topic: Prom Season Hair Celebrity Hair:  Garcelle Beauvais  And since I made you all wait, I can at least show you my box braids. Full view will come later as well. I didn't style them yet.

THE FINISHED PRODUCT

Everything came out better than I expected. I looooove these braids. Had them in for a week now. Just posting to show you the finished result. It took me a total of 12 hours to complete considering I had to take care of a baby plus my grandfather just had triple bypass surgery. Now everybody is asking me to do theirs. Lol

Day 21 NO HEAT CONTINUES...

I decided the best option for my hair was box braids. So far I have most of the hair done, just a little bit more to go. I will show off the finishing look after it is completed but for now, enjoy the pictures of my progress
