LENGTH CHECK FOR THIS MONTH

I can finally say this is the longest my hair has been in my adult life. Any length is obtainable with good practices.

LENGTH CHECKS...THE PURPOSE!

Photo courtesy of thehairfiles.com, click photo to enlarge image Length checking is a way to measure the length of your hair. Length checking is a way to track your hair journey, your progress in other words. The average hair growth is about six inches per year, some achieve more, some achieve slightly less than the average, but the way to track that is by length checking. Keep in mind that length checking is just checking the growth that you have RETAINED, not the actual GROWTH accumulated between progress checks.  Click to enlarge hair chart Before I tell you how to do a proper length check, let's look at how each length looks at the levels of growth. I'm not for sure what this length would be called but I'm going to just call it above ear length (AEL): EAR LENGTH (EL): Hair touches the ear in this stage. NECK LENGTH (NL): Hair is now past the EL stage and is touching the base of the neck. NL varies due to body composition. Some peo...

TODAY IS THE DAY...CURLY GIRL CHALLENGE

Well the time has come, I am doing my own form of the curly girl challenge for this month as promised. Since it is October 1st, what better time to begin than now. Yesterday, I washed, deep conditioned hair and wrapped it up while it was still wet. I didn't wrap it as you would a wrap, but just stuffed the hair into my bonnet and left it over night. Believe it or not, it gives off a scrunchy, curly look and also keeps the hair soft. I don't have a set regimen for this challenge, but I do know that I will co-wash every two days with a moisture -rich conditioner. Wrap hair nightly with the bonnet to maintain my curls over night. In the morning (if needed), use a spray bottle with a mixture of water, conditioner, and some oil to give me the desired look I am seeking. Every other day, use my homemade growth oil mixture to oil my scalp. And lastly, run a quarter size amount of oil through my hair before wrapping it up. Simple.  I took a pledge to myself, not to straig...

BEGINNING OF THE MONTH - LENGTH CHECK

Instead of waiting to do random length checks for the month, I am just going to stick with doing a length check within the first week of each month.  With today's length check, I shampoo, deep conditioned, and used a protein conditioner. I air dried to about 75%, and then blow dried due to me wanting to study for exam tomorrow. I then trimmed my hair by sections. I applied heat protectant, then continued to flat iron. Despite having to trim due to the ends being slightly broken off, I am happy to report that my hair is still healthy and full. See you all next month.

HAIR OF THE DAY!! TAE HECKARD

Many of you are familiar with this woman from the hit show "The Game" that now comes on BET. Her hair as been on my mind since I first seen her. Gorgeous hair! Natural, full and thick. Well some may claim it is from her Korean heritage....but I think that her hair is more of African texture since Korean hair is known to be flat straight. Whatever her hair comes from, we all drool over it. Well she has said that she gets her hair trimmed EVERY 8 WEEKS. Amazing how quickly it grows back. She also gets deep conditioning treatments regularly. Currently her hair is hip length, per a photo she uploaded to instagram. She made a comment about how it was time for her trim. She has this "self-created" style she always wear, in which, I have been seen copied numerous times. It is somewhat of a ninja bun like so: With good hair practices, trims, and deep conditioning, you too can have beautiful, thick, healthy hair!

DENISE BOUTTE: HAIR OF THE WEEK

I have always loved her hair from the first time I seen her in a movie. We all know that she plays the lead role in Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns, but did you also know that she wanted to become a doctor but ended up graduating at the top of her class with a degree in mass communication and was on her way to being a top-notch account director in the advertising world? Well besides her busy schedule, somehow she always seems to maintain her beautiful hair. From the information from a magazine she was in, she had stated that she perms her hair twice a year since it is easier to maintain this way. But she prefers more "natural" styles like rocking buns or braid-outs for fuller looks. Despite whatever type of hair she have, I will always be in love with her healthy and thick hair.

QUICK HAIRSTYLE OF THE DAY!

I flat ironed my hair on Sunday for the new semester of school. So since I hate hair being in my face these days, I decided to do the "old-school" half up, half down style. I sectioned off the top half from the bottom. Pinned the front half uup into a loose bun and waaalaaah....look complete. Quick and simple. Look below for pictures of the finished look.
