DAYS ONE TO FIVE: NO HEAT CHALLENGE

I love taking pictures of different hairstyles I do. And just like last time with this challenge, I will document many different styles I create. So far for days one through five, I washed my hair, deep conditioned it, and wore a bun for the first three days. For the last two days, I wore a braid out. Nothing spectacular but a lot of my patients loved the big hair. This is my hair with no product after a fresh wash: This is a reverse bun that I did. I loved how big and full it was. I received many compliments on it. And the braid out I have wore yesterday.  Tonight, I may cowash, and wear a big bun or wear a nice wash and go to one side, or I may try to find someway to preserve this braidout. Either way, I will snap a few pictures. I fought so hard not to use the flat iron on Monday. Lol

BEGINNING OF SUMMER LENGTH CHECK

If you read the previous post then you know I am doing a " NO HEAT IN THE SUMMER CHALLENGE ." What better way to start this challenge but with a length check. I am not sure what length I am but if you have been following my blog, you know that I trim my hair every time I get to bra-strap length. It seems that is where the most breakage happens for some reason. I mention this because it seems I am at BSL again, but fortunately, there is no damage. Start of Summer No Heat Challenge:

NO HEAT SUMMER CHALLENGE

WHO IS WITH ME? YAAAY TO NO HEAT FOR THE SUMMER. IT IS HOT ENOUGH ALREADY, SO WHY ADD HEAT TO YOUR BEAUTIFUL TRESSES? OFFICIAL START DATE FOR THIS CHALLENGE IS JUNE 21, 2014 UNTIL SEPTEMBER 21, 2014. I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS CHALLENGE. THREE MONTHS WORTH OF HAIR GROWTH THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY KEEP WITHOUT DAMAGE IS A WONDERFUL THOUGHT.  THIS TIME AROUND, THERE IS NO HEAT PASS AT ALL. THAT RULE RIGHT THERE WILL BE A CHALLENGE FOR ME. OH MY. I JUST HAVE TO KEEP IN MIND THAT IT WILL BENEFIT MY HAIR. GOOD LUCK TO THOSE WHO ARE JOINING ME.

SUMMER REGIMEN: STICK IT TO THE BOARD

This summer, I am determined to get the most out of my growth. I know I have not updated any length checks in a while, but I have trimmed again since the last trim. My hair is currently back scraping my brastrap once again. It seems like I get over that hump but then have to trim back down due to damage. This time around I am writing out, well typing out, my regimen and pinning it on this page to remind myself of what I set out to do as far as my summer hair goes. JUNE : Week One: Sunday: I will flat iron my hair and do a summer length check. Monday: Wrap hair as normal. Use JBCO on my ends Tuesday: Oil scalp. Do nothing special. Wednesday: Nothing Thursday: Same as Monday Friday: Same as Tuesday Saturday: Same as Wednesday Week Two: Sunday: Oil-Rinse, shampoo, conditioner, prepare hair for flat twist out Monday: Leave hair in twists. Oil in between twists. Tuesday: Unravel. Wear hair curly. Pin up at night into a pineapple, or four big bantu knots Wednesday: U...

QUICK AND EASY STYLES BY KIM KIMBLE

Of course browsing on youtube today for hairstyles to try during my "no heat challenge," I came across this video directed by Kim Kimble. In this video, she demonstrates a few styles to do on curly hair. It can be naturally curly, curly from curling irons, flexi rods, old bantu knot outs, braid outs or whatever, it can even be done on blow out hair. The point is, just about anyone can try these quick and simple styles. Give it a try and make sure I see a picture. Email me. I would love to see your creative approach to it.

CURLY TOP: THE PERFECT WAY TO ACHIEVE THOSE LUSCIOUS CURLS

I wanted a big curly fro that would come out something like the image above. I wanted the bomb, the big, the spiral curl look that I could later put into a frohawk.  I found something that pretty much worked and I could do plenty of other styles besides a frohawk with the way the hair came out. I know you want picture results of how MY hair turned out right? Well here you go! Nice right? So you want to know the steps taken? Of course you do, and of course I love taking pics of my steps. This time I start off with freshly washed hair. I let it air dry until the water stopped slipping off the hair. When it is about 85% dry, you make sure you have all of your materials. Comb Some type of curl gel (I used curls unleashed) Shea butter I start parting into two sections. Top half and bottom half. With the top half, part with a pigtail comb a section to begin flat twisting. With the section being about two fingers in thickness, apply a thin coat of she...

FLAT TWIST OUT PIC-TORIAL - PERFECTION

I love, love, love my hair. Thing is, we also have one of those "love-hate" relationships. Fortunately, I found a "go-to" style during those "I hate you" periods. Flat twists can be done in various ways, either two stranded or just rolled. I prefer the two-stranded twist. Follow this tutorial to achieve the same look  Start with freshly washed hair. Clean hair makes it shine when you apply products to it later. Let it air dry to about 85 - 90%. If hair is too damp, it takes soooo long to dry. Trust me, I did it many times and always failed at the twist out.  Separate the back half from the front half.  Starting with the front, begin parting nice slices of hair. Make sure it is not too thin and not too thick.  I used curls unleashed curling jelly (purple jar). Apply a thin layer to the piece you are about to twist. make sure to distribute through that section. Begin twisting with two strands downwards towards your face. At the en...

PRE-POO RECIPE FOR MOISTURE

You know the benefits (some) get from pre-pooing. I know I had great strength against breakage when I used to pre-poo when I began my hair journey. I slacked off but now trying to regain what worked again. Somehow I misplaced the 100% Coconut Oil I just bought. So I had to remix the pre-poo oils. I decided to use Shea Butter and Olive Oil. No matter what your ingredients are, just be sure to check your allergies. Always test a small area prior to doing your whole head. That's with any product you plan to use. This is my routine for pre-pooing hair: DO NOT COMB HAIR PUT HAIR INTO FOUR SECTIONS START WITH THE BACK SECTION SINCE THAT IS THE SECTION THAT WILL MOST LIKELY RUB AGAINST MATERIAL.  APPLY MIX TO ONE SECTION - MAKE SURE IT IS WELL THROUGH THE STRANDS - PIN THAT SECTION UP AFTER APPLICATION REPEAT FOR THE REMAINING THREE SECTIONS PLACE A SHOWER CAP OR PLASTIC BAG OVER HAIR DECIDE IF YOU ARE GOING TO GO UNDER THE DRYER FOR 20 MINUTES  OR WEAR THE SHOWER CAP ...

MALINDA WILLIAMS DOES HAIR

When I think of Malinda Williams, I always think about how gorgeous she looks rocking short hair. I honestly don't think long hair works for her. The short cut brings out her best features if you ask me. "Da Wood" beauty now has her own youtube channel where she does her own hair, gives advice, and is also answering your questions. Looking at the way Malinda cares for her hair makes me want to chop mine off and start over. Stay updated with what's going on in Malinda's hair journey. Youtube Twitter Instagram
