CELEBRITY HAIR: JADA PINKETT SMITH

Jada Pinkett Smith has always been beautiful to me. All the way from the tough girl in Set-It-Off, to her loving friendship with Tupac. Even more beautiful than Jada's face, is her beautiful and gorgeous hair. Here is a post she just uploaded to facebook regarding her hair, hope you enjoy. She even shares what products she uses. I may have to invest in Carol's Daughter, although I always thought they were a bit pricey. "I know you all often see my hair in various ways, but what you see in these pics is MY natural hair. I've taken care of this mane with CAROL'S DAUGHTER products for over 15 years, specifically...Lisa's Hair Elixir. With that said, Carol’s Daughter is still going strong, despite some misleading press, so much so you can now find it in Target, on HSN, Ulta and Sephora inside JCPenny. My hair would like to say thank you to Lisa Price of Carol's Daughter for making products that actually nourish the scalp and hair;)" -Jada

END OF THE YEAR LENGTH CHECK

It's that time again, and since I flat ironed my hair this last week of December, I decided to post my "End of the Year Length Check." ( Here is last year's length check ) This year I have had a lot of growth, a lot of experimenting, and a lot of damage due to not using heat protectant. I ended up trimming four times this year due to breakage from the heat, and from constantly wearing a styles with bobby pins that I would keep in the same position. Towards the end, I started back my old routine - oil rinsing and deep conditioning weekly. So far it seems to be going great. I can not wait to see what 2014 holds for my hair. Maybe finally I will be able to reach Waist Length. Ciao I will not post until the New Year! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!! If you are with me for the No heat challenge like last year, please update me on how you are making out as well. I tried to link the past mini "no heat challenge for 90 days results" but I coul...

CHINA: LONGEST HAIR CONTEST

Now this contest in China is taking "long hair, don't care" to a whole other level. Check out the video below. Personally, I do NOT want hair that long. That is a bit too drastic for my taste; especially when the hair does not even look all that healthy. All of the women appear to need some deep conditioning, oil rinses, and a heavy trim. How about you? Would you ever let your hair grow this long?

WOW FACTOR! CELEB HAIR OF THE WEEK: AFRICA MIRANDA

Can you say GAW-JUSSS!! I mean literally, GORGEOUS hair. Africa Miranda definitely has it made with her lucky curls/kinks.  One night, I'm awake looking for something to watch when a show came on the Bravo Network. The show looked semi-interesting to me so I watched a little more hoping that it was full of black women since the show is based in Atlanta. I was in for a shock of my life, when Africa Miranda popped up on my screen with the most delicious curly fro I have ever saw. I mean the hair was so thick, so healthy, so luscious, that I almost made love to it from off the couch. Right away I went to research mode. I had to know who this beautiful woman with the even more beautiful hair was. What I found out is that Africa is more than just a reality star, she is also a singer, and a fellow hair blogger. I believe she even belonged to a site I still frequent ( LHCF ). It appears as though she takes VERY good care of her hair. I just have a few questions I would love t...

REMEMBER THE HAIRSTYLE I HAD WITH THE TWISTS?

SPONTANEOUS LENGTH CHECK...SO RANDOM

As I'm prepping my hair for a protective style for this week, I decided to do a quick length check without heat (meaning the basic "pull-down - stretch" method). Even after a trip back in May, my hair is back to the same length. I am still aiming for WL by the end of this year. Wish me luck/blessings =) I will do a REAL length check at the end of summer. Most likely around Labor Day. Today's length check on stretch (no heat) hair.

COMMON QUESTIONS I GET ASKED

Q. WHAT WAS YOUR TRANSITIONING LIKE FOR YOU? WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO TRANSITION?   I was at a loss in my hair journey. I mean I didn't understand how to properly care for my hair like I thought I did. I would cut, color, relax, then repeat. I would glue tracks in and then just rip them out without care. I was just reckless. Finally finding hair boards in Jan 2010, I started taking better care for the health of my hair. I started transitioning in May of 2010. It wasn't as bad as some made it out to be. I mostly wore the Southern Tease bun. I loved that bun. I pretty trimmed and trimmed until I was relaxer free in March of 2011. That was due to an incident at the beauty salon. The stylist chopped off more than she was supposed to. Long story short, I was relaxer free in June 2011. Q. DO YOU HAVE ANY PRODUCT SUGGESTIONS TO HELP GROW MY HAIR OUT? Without a question, I would say Profectiv products. You can view my article here on why I suggest their products. Q. HAVE...

Growing Long, Healthy African Textured Hair

There is no quick recipe to grow African textured hair fast. You have to have patience. One of the things I learned during my journey is that not every product that states it will grow hair +5 inches in one month will actually do what it says. If that was the case, everyone would walk around here with long hair down to their feet. HOW FAST DOES HAIR GROW? The speed of hair growth is approximately 0.5 inches per month without stimulants or supplements interfering with normal growth rate. This estimate would give you six inches of hair for the year. You also have to keep in mind that your lifestyle choices such as diet, age, exercise, and healthy hair practices all affect your growth rate. Sometimes it can enhance your rate and often it can have a negative affect. Keep in mind that our hair grows in coils, curls, that do not get moisture down through the rest of the strand.  TIPS FOR HEALTHY HAIR GROWTH: I have documented tips that have helped me along my j...
