SIMPLE BUN WITH AN ACCENT

A style that I found quick and easy to get me through one of those "unsure" days was a bun with a front swoop (which I call an accent). I applied some hair lotion, a little bit of jam for the edges, and a little bit of olive oil to the ends throughout my hair. Section off a portion in the front to make the "accent." It's up to you how much of an accent you want to swoop over. Until you are ready to mess with it, pin it down so you can focus on creating your bun. The the bun in the back, the more bushier your hair, the bigger your bun will be. My hair is naturally bushy when it is air dried. I have thick hair. What I did was wet it a little bit to make it easier to stay in place once I started bobby-pinning it down. I took the hair into both hands and started twisting in one twist all the way down to the ends loosely. Upon reaching the end of the twist, lightly roll up the hair and then pin down to the scalp. The sides should be very loose at this point a...

UPDATES...

So far this year I have not used any heat in my hair. I'm debating on straightening it tonight for a length check since I trimmed exactly a month ago. There are a few things I have done since my last post. I dyed my hair to a more reddish tint. As stated, I trimmed to a more even length. I cut out heat for a month. Lastly, I upped my deep conditioning treatments. There are also  a few styles I found that work without using heat at all. They gave me beautiful curls (will post about that in the following post). I also noticed that my natural curs are coming back and more beautiful. I love how versatile natural hair is. Stay tuned. I'm back. I find that when I was posting daily hair styles that I was posting more frequently. I may do that again for another 60 days.

I LOVE DOING FLAT TWIST OUTS

Okay, don't kill me. I know in the last post I said I was just going to wear a bun for tomorrow, but now I have decided to do a flat twist out. That way I wont have to worry about my hair for the rest of the week. I will of course post pictures tomorrow but for now, goodnight. ETA: I changed my mind again. What is wrong with me? Okay, I'm going back to my original post, as in where I will just wear a bun. I will do the twist out tomorrow night. Sigh.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

To start off fresh for the new year, I shampooed and conditioned my hair. Nothing more. I'm going to keep it super simple and stress free this year with my hair. Not going to continuously do length checks, not going to straighten every single second I get board, just simple things. Like for example, I didn't put any product in my hair just yet. I'm letting it air so that I can have big puffy hair for tomorrow. I want to throw it back into a thick ponytail. Before I do that, after it dries, I will apply profectiv lotion, and a small amount of coconut oil. Good luck for the new year with your hair care, and stay tuned to my journey.

NEW YEAR HAIR

I CUT MY HAIR. I MEAN LITERALLY A FEW INCHES. IT LOOKS SO MUCH HEALTHIER, AND IS SO FULL OF BODY. I'M GOING TO CONTINUE TO LIMIT HEAT AND FIND ALTERNATIVES TO THAT FOR THE NEW YEAR. AIMING TO REACH PAST WL IN 2014 SINCE I DID NOT HAPPEN THIS PAST YEAR. ANYWAY, I'M ENDING THIS RANDOM POST WITH PICS FROM TONIGHT. HAVE A FUN AND HAPPY START TO THE NEW YEAR.

END OF THE YEAR LENGTH CHECK

It's that time again, and since I flat ironed my hair this last week of December, I decided to post my "End of the Year Length Check." ( Here is last year's length check ) This year I have had a lot of growth, a lot of experimenting, and a lot of damage due to not using heat protectant. I ended up trimming four times this year due to breakage from the heat, and from constantly wearing a styles with bobby pins that I would keep in the same position. Towards the end, I started back my old routine - oil rinsing and deep conditioning weekly. So far it seems to be going great. I can not wait to see what 2014 holds for my hair. Maybe finally I will be able to reach Waist Length. Ciao I will not post until the New Year! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!! If you are with me for the No heat challenge like last year, please update me on how you are making out as well. I tried to link the past mini "no heat challenge for 90 days results" but I coul...

DEAR DECEMBER : DAY 19 - 24

Day 19 through 21: Okay, oil rinsed Wednesday night, and dry wrapped hair again. I wore the following styles all week. Saturday, I washed and conditioned. After letting hair air dry over night, I decided to flat iron. It came out beautifully. I made sure I used heat protectant as always. So no complaints over here. ETA: Okay well day 23 was pure hell for me. First I OD on Nyquil. So I was extra drowsy. Plus it was rainy outside all day, so I was just miserable. Now to complete this messed up day, I went left work, headed to my car that was parked down the block to find this: A DAMN FLAT TIRE. IN THE RAIN. WITH THIS FRESHLY FLAT IRONED HAIR. AAAAHHHH. I looked a pure mess afterwards. All that time flat ironing went to waste. So I am here tonight as I type this update, re-flat ironing. Don't worry, this is my last time flat ironing for a while. My friend, who is natural, did not flat iron her hair for a whole year and finally did it for Christma...

DEAR DECEMBER: DAY 16-19

Well, after the oil rinse, I decided to shampoo and condition. I ended up doing a wet wrap on my hair which turned out gorgeous for this work week. I have been wearing it in a banana clip with it hanging thickly in the back and the waves flowing through the scalp giving it a textured look. I also work a braid across the front for most of the week thus far. Will upload pictures later, I can not seem to find my phone with the pictures at the moment. Ciao!!

DEAR DECEMBER: DAY 15

As I type this, I'm giving myself an oil treatment just using Shea Butter and Coconut Oil. Not sure how long I'm going to let it soak into my strands but I do know that I needed it. My hair was so dry, it soaked the oil right up. Now the big question is, am I going to shampoo afterwards, or go straight to conditioner and wait another week before shampooing? Hmm... Then, if I do shampoo after, am I going to try roller-setting? am I going to dry wrap like I have done in the past? or am I going to wear it naturally curly? Decisions, decisions, decisions. Stay tuned...

DEAR DECEMBER: DAY 10

A few quick selfies. Again didn't do much. Just unwrapped, then took a hand full of hair from the back and swooped it up. I pinned it down with two bobby pins. I did oil my scalp and apply some olive oil.

DEAR DECEMBER: DAY 9

Still flat ironed. I wore a head wrap to work until I got into the building. This rain is not going to mess up my shine. Yea yea yea, I know pics right? I promise tomorrow I will have pics and also do a length check.

DEAR DECEMBER: DAY 8

I know I was not supposed to use the flat iron...BUUUUUT I had to. I got tired of wetting my hair everyday. Tired of the braidouts etc. I shampooed, deep conditioned, then flat ironed. I did use heat protectant, I notice my natural curls are coming in, especially after I trimmed off a good amount.  So for this week, I will be wearing my hair straight.

DEAR DECEMBER: DAY 7

Again, I did not do anything. Wore the same ponytail to work. I don't know what's going on with me, but I just haven't been in the mood to do anything to this mane. This weekend, I am going to give myself an oil treatment then see what to do with it for this week. Maybe a dry wrap.

DEAR DECEMBER: DAY 5

Last night I decided to follow my routine to do a two strand twist out, following the routine from here . Products used: Curls unleashed jelly Shea Butter Comb Brush If everything goes as planned upon take down, I plan to wear my hair similar to this: I will unveil the results later on. So far this no heat/ 30 days of healthy hair practices are going easy for me.

DEAR DECEMBER: DAY 4

Since it is mid-week, I decided to do a wash-n-go. Nothing spectacular. Of course I will post pictures later but at the moment the hair is still wet. I so want my wash- n-gos to come out big, culy, and fluffy like so: Sigh!! I love it. Will share the results later with you.  ETA: So the results didn't come out the way I liked, lol I started off nice, then as the hair dried, it got bigger and bigger and bigger, until I was forced to put it into a bun. sigh But here are a few pics before the bun as it dried.

DEAR DECEMBER DAY 3

For day 3, again, I didn't do much. I had a hard time trying to figure out how to style it but I ended up using a quarter size amount of Profectiv Hair Lotion. I Then left out a small section of hair for a front hump/bang. With the rest of the hair, I brushed back into a banana clip.  Since I combed the hair from the braidout, the banana clip  was hard to close, but I made it happen. I then twisted sections of the hair in the banana clip into two strand twists, pinning them around the banana clip. It actually came out really cute.
