SUNDAY DINNER: HAITIAN RICE AND PEACE WITH SALMON

I had never tried Salmon. Never liked it. Well, that was because I never tried it. Hmm. Nonetheless, I finally gave in and had my first taste of this delicious dish about three months ago and fell in love with it. I do not know much about the fish but I do know that they are bred in fresh water, go to the ocean for a bit but return to the fresh waters to reproduce.

Salmon is known as one of the worlds healthiest foods due to it's rich content of Omega-3 and protein. I will make another post about the benefits of Salmon but this post is about Sunday Dinner. Along with the Salmon that yes I will fry ( it will not kill me to have fried food every now and then.), I am also having Haitian style rice and peas. The classic dish in every Haitian home. The peas in the rice with the hint of mushrooms offer a delightful taste to your taste buds. This will be my first time actually trying this recipe but I know it will turn out better than expected.

Salmon:

Ingredients: Atlantic Boneless Salmon Portions, Light Virgin Olive Oil, Flour, Seasonings of your choice, Jamaican Jerk Seasoning

  1. Always wash your fish first.
  2. Add Seasoning of your choice (I used Season All, Black Pepper, Garlic Powder, Crushed Red Peppers). Make sure to season both sides.
  3. After each piece of fish is seasoned, put into a plastic back (I just reused the bag that the fish came out of).
  4. Add about a tablespoon of Jamaican Jerk Seasoning. Close the bag and shake it up so that the seasoning is all over the Salmon.
  5. Now I changed bags for this step, you do not have to but I wanted more room to shake around the contents. So now you put the fish into a separate bag and add flour. Shake the bag until Salmon is covered.
  6. Heat enough oil to your liking, (I use more than I should but that is just me.).
  7. Once oil is heated, place your Salmon into the skillet and let it fry until both sides (of course you have to flip it) are brown and the inside is thoroughly cooked.
  8. Remove from the heat and drain some of that oil out by placing the Salmon onto paper-towels to cool off
Rice:

Ingredients: White Minute Rice, Mushrooms, Garlic

I followed a recipe from the internet here: Haitian Black Rice and Peas

Lastly I decided to follow up my meal with Baked Candy Yams covered in Marshmallows. Fairly simple to make. If you would like that recipe, email me.

Wondering how it turned out? Here you go. Nothing was burned, those are just marshmallows ontop of the candied yams in case you are wondering, lol Delicious.

TRUMP TWEETS A MESSAGE FOR AMERICANS AMID DACA SCANDAL

With the rest of the United States still trying to come to grips with the devastation that occurred one week ago in Texas by Hurricane Harvey, Trump takes to twitter and gives a labor day tweet for Americans. That may not seem like a big deal but for about 800,000 DACA recipients, it comes as a slap in the face. What is DACA? DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. It's American immigration policy founded by former president, Barack Obama in June 2012. DACA allows certain illegal immigrants who entered the country as minors, to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and eligibility for a work permit. Well, "All-American" president, Donald Trump, wants to do away with the program as he feels America should be ran by Americans. Meaning, only American items to be made by American workers. That's interesting, considering numerous women Trump has been with and married to did not come to this country born American

HAIR OF THE DAY: BROOKE BAILEY

For those of you wondering if this is all of Brooke Bailey's hair.....I can let all of the inquiring minds know that YES, this is indeed her real hair, and not only is this her real hair, she is also natural.  She was asked on twitter if she perms or presses her hair out with a hot comb. She had responded by saying @brookebaileyinc LOL ...  I don't perm or press my hair. In this pic I washed it and let it air dry.  It seems as if she always had beautiful hair. Her hair is absolutely gorgeous and looks very healthy. Her natural haircare line (in which she uses for her hair) will be launched shortly. I guess I may have to give it a try. Considering how shiny her hair looks, it can't be that bad. (Click to enlarge images)

TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY: FLY TATTED SKY

Do you watch Black Ink NY? If so, did you notice how Sky's confidence level went to over "a hunnit" after she got the plastic surgery she has been dyin gto get. I mean she always had an outgoing personality, but now "it's all the way up." Congrats to Sky and that new body. What I love is that she didn't go too overboard like most people with injections/implants. Before : After:
