NEW YEAR'S EVE: I FLAT IRONED FOR A LENGTH CHECK

You know the reason I big chopped back in September was due to years of neglect and abuse with the flat iron, well this time around, I am not going to flat iron weekly but probably every three months for length checks. C'mon, I have to have some fun with my hair right? Well today, I flat ironed and the results were absolutely dramatic, well at least for me it was. My hair has grown so much from barely nothing to actually being able to put it into a ponytail with some hang-time in the back... Let me tell you, I was all up in the mirror afterwards. So here is my official hair length check for the New Year. I promise not to straighten until after I meet my weight loss goal, which is a 15 lb loss of weight. Hehe Watch me step out like... Now for the grand reveal: My hair Jan 1, 2016 Length Check

AROUND THE WORLD WEDNESDAYS: TEMNE TRIBE

Sierra Leone, a beautiful country situated on the West Coast of Africa. With sixteen different ethnic groups, this country is truly beautiful in itself, despite what the media shows. This focus will be on the Temne Ethnic group of Sierra Leone.  Browsing the web for research purposes, I saw how gorgeous the people there are. I'm talking about the clearest, most bright skin that I have ever saw in a group of people. I was also amazed at how similar the hairstyles are to the kind in the U.S and other industrialized places. Like, I didn't even know they had wigs and things of that sort in a tribe. Take notes of how small their braids are, wow. I guess braiding is universal, even in places like this. Beautiful. Take note that the "swag" is similar to ours here in North America, lol.  What I found out is that one of my favorite news anchors, Iesha Sesay, from CNN is part of the Temne Tribe Enjoy the pictures. I love seeing the beauty in other cultures.

TUESDAY'S SOLUTION: OLIVE OIL

I know for a fact that you know what Olive Oil is used for; cooking obviously. But did you know that you can also use this product for your hair and skin? Of course you did, so did you actually try it out? Well I have, and still continue to use Olive Oil, well the Extra Virgin Olive Oil, known as EVOO in the hair hair world.  If you have dry hair, thick hair, dirty hair, breakage, colored, permed or natural hair, this will work wonders for your tresses. I use it for an oil rinse, a pre-poo, a sealant, and also as an itchy scalp reliever - especially when my hair is almost desert dry. I will make a separate post later for each of the ways I use EVOO but right now I am just trying to introduce you to it. Olive Oil has been used on the hair for thousands of years. It adds shine, body, softness, and resilience to the strands, making it stronger and preventing breakage. It doesn't matter the hair type, or race of a person, Olive Oil works for everyone. Give it a try and see if

MOTIVATION MONDAY: THE STORY OF ME

Follow my instagram for daily hair pics.  My hair has had its struggles through the years; some good, some bad, and some just ooogly (ugly). But through it all, it has been a learning experience as I continue to get a full grasp of this hair of mine. As a kid, I had a decent amount of hair and would get it pressed a few times, which would let my hair reach mid-back. That was until a friend of the family put a perm in my hair and then the process started from then - a downward spiral that I never fully recovered. As of right now, I cannot find any pictures of my high school years, but I did find a few from those "awkward" years after high school. I used to fry, dye, blow-dry, cut, wear bonding glue to attach weaves, and everything else you could possible imagine, I did. I didn't really care about my hair because it looked cute and healthy to me. Little did I know at the time that I was damaging my hair to the extremes with perming, then blow-drying, then coloring, t
